I don't know that much about the Britax Chaperone, but I know several people who have the Peg Perego and all say that it's so ridiculously heavy that they stopped even taking it out of the car. My cousin and her husband (who is a 6'2" firefighter) both said that it feels like lead... especially once their daughter hit the 14-15lb range.

I'm sure the weight is related to its safety features, but the whole point of an infant seat is that you can take it out of the car and cart it around with you. If it's not easy or convenient to do that, then you might as well just get a convertible seat right off the bat! I found online reviews on target.com and babiesrus.com very helpful when picking out my baby gear!

I have heard both are heavy to lug around. I never did the 'infant bucket', went straight for a convertible and a stroller that reclined for newborns (or just used a baby sling). I couldn't see paying that much money for a car seat that I would use for only about a year. Our neighbors have the Britax, stopped taking that seat in and out of the car after 4 months of use. That seat should last to abut 18 months. At that time, you will still need to get another RF seat. Evenflo Triumph 65 is a great top-rated convertible, and is great for newborns and according to my LO's VERY comfy. Just can't take it in and out of the car, but the seat will last you for about 5 years. Paying top dollar doesn't mean getting the top-rated set. If you do go for a pricey travel system, try before you buy. Another reason we skipped the infant bucket, was that many travel systems felt like crap moving around. We tried them in the store, found some heavy toys to plop in the seat 'like a baby', and many were just awful with any weight in them.

I selected Graco. However, I recommend you to choose the Rear facing type car seat as it is safer than front facing car seat.

As I know, there was a new recommendation about using car seat as parent shall use rear facing car seat for their kid until 2 years old not 1 year old as stated previously.

The Britax seat will fit in your car, but as it is wider (and safer) than many other car seat brands, you may find it hard to comfortably seat another adult passenger beside it. We have the same seat and a giant SUV and still have this problem.

I have The Britax Marathon in the back of my Jeep! If it fits on that small bench, it will definitely fit your car! It really is a great carseat! A bit pricey but definitely worth it!
Very best wishes!

We did a lot of research when purchasing our car seats and found one place on the web to be invaluable...

Check them out and see what they say about your combination. The listings are not complete, but a good help nonetheless.

I don't actually have the Bugaboo but when I was deciding which stroller to get I spent alot of time at the store trying it out. I ended up getting an Orbit because I liked that the car seat could go from the car to the stroller without waking the baby up. I loved the Bugaboo besides the fact that it didn't have a carseat. I would have definetly purchased it if we lived in a large city and didn't drive everywhere. You may want to check out the Orbit. I LOVE it!

I love the skate. I've never had a bugaboo. I live in the city so for me weight wasn't an issue because I am not really loading it in and out of a car. Though I did just fly by myself to Florida with my 3-month-old son and took the stroller with car seat through the airport. it was very easy to collapse and put through security. Mechanically it is far superior to the bugaboo, or at least that was what my husband determined when we were deciding between the two. it rides really well and handles the bumpy, construction laden, torn up streets of NYC. And the baby loves it.

I have the Bugaboo and we like it. We bought the car seat adapter so we can use our Graco Snugride car seat with it (very light car seat compared to Peg Perego).

I don't know anything about the Peg Perego Skate. Bugaboo is light and folds up easy - one thing is that you do have to detach the seat or the bassinet from the base before folding though. We usually keep the base and the car seat adapter in the car to use it out and about. When we are at home we just put her in her car seat or the bassinet/seat that came with the bugaboo and then snap her into the base. The bassinet is really useful for when they are newborns - you can put them in that and move them room to room with you in the house, it has a carry bar.

One thing I don't like about the Bugaboo is the straps on the seat portion - they are really long. My smaller 5 month old cannot sit semi-upright in the seat because of this - the straps at their tightest are a good 2-3 inches too long so she is stuck in the full recline position. She doesn't like this because she can sit supported and wants to be able to look around, not lay down. Because of this I usually just put her in her maya sling for walks around our neighborhood.

I'm currently using the Chameleon for our 9 month old and love it! It's so easy to move around, even in tight spaces. I love the big wheels, which in Canada comes in handy with our snowy winters (which is just around the corner, argh!). Plus the wheels make it easy to go over curbs and bumps. And I like the fact that it comes in 2 pieces for the following reasons: one, I can easily remove / put in the car seat and fold just the frame to fit into the back of our small car when we drive somewhere. And two, the bassinet (for new born) /seat (for older baby) clicks in very easily for when we want to take a stroll. Plus I find it looks very stylish unlike some of the other bulky strollers. That's important too!

The only negative thing I would say is we didn't use the bassinet for very long. A month or so at most. We moved quickly to the seat (the angle of which can be adjusted for baby's needs). So I felt like I paid for something I didn't really use. But you do need the bassinet for a newborn so no way around it I suppose.

It's more expensive than other strollers, but I find it's totally worth it.

Oh, I should mention that at first the frame is tricky to fold, but once you get the hang of it it's a snap. I practiced in our livingroom a number of times so that I wouldn't have to tackle it with a crying baby!

Congrats on the soon-to-be baby!

I have the Bugaboo.
Things I like about it:
- Every cloth item can go in the washing machine
- Bassinet is big
- You can have the baby facing you or away
- Very comfortable on the road
- Handbrake

What I don't like about it:
- Bit complicated to fold and set up
- Bulky. It takes up quite a bit of room in the house, but if you have the space this should not be a problem.
- Until you change it to the buggy, it's very hard to get things in and out of the basket underneath
- Quite low to the ground
- Extra's are extremely expensive (though you can get 'generic' extra's)
- Hard to attach stroller toys to it

I got it as a present from my parents and I picked it myself, but to be very honest: if I got to choose again now (my son is almost 5 months) I would probably go for a different kind of stroller. I'd pick one that's more compact and I guess.

I like the idea of the Peg Pergo with the car seat option. You will get a lot of use out of it when the baby is a newborn. Do pay attention though that it's a click on system (where the base stays in the car) otherwise you're messing around with seatbelts all the time and that's annoying and time consuming.

Anyway, I hope this helped a bit.

Good luck and congrats on the new baby!

I have the Evenflo Triumph 65, LOVE IT! Rear-facing my three year old, he turns forward this week on his 4th birthday. You turn your child around to forward-facing when they hit the max limit on the seat. (his seat is to 40 pounds rear-facing, he is currently 36 pounds). The seat forward-faces to 65 pounds. Can't beat that for safety. Good price, great side-impact protection. Easy to use and install.

You should keep him rear facing for as long as possible, as its the safest way to travel. I've had several brands of car seats for my son, and I have to say I think Britax is the best. They're made better than most of the other ones and most of them can rear face to around 40 pounds. They're a little more expensive than some others, but you can't put a price on your childs safety.

They’re made better than most of the other ones and most of them can rear face to around 40 pounds. They’re a little more expensive than some others, but you can’t put a price on your childs safety.

I don't know about which is "best" - they all have to meet current safety standards. It's safest to keep him rear-facing for as long as possible, though, so you might want to look for a convertible seat that will work in the rear-facing position for several years.

At least in the United States, all infant car seats must meet minimum safety requirements. In terms of safest, they will all be similar in their safety features. Your son does not have to remain in an infant car seat (I am assuming you are meaning the style that has a handle so you can carry him in it). What he can use is something called a convertible car seat. This style is typically rate for babies beginning at 5 pounds and will vary in their maximum weight limit. A convertible car seat can be used rear facing and turned forward facing when the time is right. Look up the laws in your particular state about height, weight, and age requirements for forward facing babies. Most health organization recommend an infant remain rear facing until they are both 12 months old and 20 pounds. However, current safety standards encourage parents to leave their babies rear facing as long as possible. Many convertible car seats are now rated for rear facing up to 30-35 pounds. He won't need a child toddler seat for awhile. Go to a place that carries a variety of car seats such as Babies R Us, Target, Sears, Toys R Us, etc. Take a look at the samples and read the boxes for height, weight, and age ratings for each individual car seat. You may end up deciding on which car seat is best based on how the car seat might fit in your car, the pattern of the seat cover, or the features such as a cup/snack holder. Do a search online for something like "how to choose a car seat" and you will come up with a variety of good web sites that can walk you through the steps to choose a car seat that is right for your son and your vehicle. The key thing in safety with car seats is to have the seat properly installed and than to have your son properly restrained in it. Even the best car seat on the market won't protect a child who is not properly restrained in a properly attached car seat.

Since car seat testing results aren't released to the public it is impossible to know which one is the safest. All car seats have to pass the same safety testing. Even though there are car seat brands that claim to be the safest because they do their own tests at higher impact speeds, there is really no proof that they really are safer then other car seats (but they are much more expensive). The safest car seat is the one that is used properly every time. Babies must be rear facing until at least 1 year old and 20 pounds but it is safer for them to stay rear facing for as long as possible (75% less likely to be seriously injured or killed in an accident when rear facing). So when your looking for a car seat what you should be looking for is one with a higher rear facing weight limit and one that is easy to install and tighten.
I like the evenflo triumph 65 because it has a rear facing limit of 40 pounds, forward facing limit of 65 pounds and the straps don't have to be rethreaded to adjust the height (it just slides up and down) making one of the easiest car seats to adjust which helps make sure baby buckled in properly every time.

My friend's son was too big for his at 6 1/2 months. I bought her the MyRide 65- she loves it! Her son loves it too, it is really cushioned. He can stay rear facing for up to 40 pounds and then front facing up to 65 pounds- you should check it out, it would be a great investment!

It depends how big your baby is. My daughter was still in it until around 15 months old. The pound limit was about 22 pounds and she still hadn't meet that weight. Now at 18 months we switched her to a regular front facing car seat.

My 11 1/2 month old still has a pound to go before she hits the max weight requirement for her infant seat. It just depends on how fast your baby grows.

My son is 15 months and he still meets the requirements to stay in his infant car seat (23 pound limit.) Although, he is so close to the weight limit that we are going to switch the car seats out this week. His height and weight are both in the same percentile (I guess he is a bit small for the average,) he still fits fine head/feet wise in the infant carrier.

HI
My children who weighed between 3.9kg & 4.6kg at birth all out grew their baby seats at approx 7 months. However my niece has just come out of hers at 11 months as she was too tall to fit into it.
Sorry I can't give you a more definite answer but there are so many factors that affect baby's size its very hard to guess when they will not longer fit into their seats.

my son wouldnt have officially outgrown his infant seat till after 6 months, but i moved him to a convertible seat at 4 months because he was too heavy for me to carry around in the carrier, and i liked the convertible seat better :)

most convertibles you can use from birth, so you could always skip the infant carrier and go straight to a convertible to get the most use out of it :)

I don't have an answer, but I have a suggestion instead... Try calling both companies and ask them. They may be able to tell you. OR, if you have the car seat already, you can go to a store that sells the stroller and ask if you can check it out. I've never heard of the stroller so I'd have no idea where they sell them. I know Toys R Us and Baby Depot have a butt load of strollers on display, put together. So it wouldn't hurt to stop in and check it yourself.
