How much did your baby weigh when he/she grew out of the infant car seat?

When my kids were infants (back in the 1990s), the maximum weight of the infant car seat was 20 pounds. My kids were more like 17 or 18 pounds when the car seat straps were getting too tight over the shoulders and we couldn’t use it anymore. How much did your babies weigh when the infant seat got too small? How old was you baby?

Mine were skinny but got to long for it. My daughter will be 3 in August and still only weighs 22 pounds but she has been in the convertible car seat for a long time, i switched her as soon as she got to long for the infant. I got the Britax car seat and after using it I would never use another brand those car seats are so awesome! I love how much easier they are to use than any other I have had.

20 LBS BC THATS WHAT TX STATE LAW SAYS THEY HAVE TO BE AT BEFORE THEY CAN GO INTO A CONVERTIBEL BIGGER SEAT. SO I TRIED TO FOLLOW THAT RULE THE CLOSEST I COULD. I WOULD DEF WAIT TILL THEY ARE AT LEAST 20 LBS.
    GOOD LUCK!

my son is 6 months old and, although the straps still fit him okay (there is plenty of room for adjustment, still) he is WAAAAAAY too long for his car seat (29 inches!). he is 18 pounds and i’m going to get a new car seat this weekend.

My daughter is almost 5 months and is 16 lbs and about 29 or 30 inches long. She appears to be getting too big for her car seat and her doctor said that when she turns 9 months we could get the front facing car seat if she has reached 20 lbs by that time; which I’m sure she will by then.

We changed to a convertible car seat because the infant car seat straps were too tight (with snow suit in winter) when our daughter was about 8 months and 18 lbs.

We changed for one of those Britax Marathon that you can use rear facing. She just reached 20 lbs at 11 months, but the rule is 20 lbs and 12 months to switch to forward facing. But we will probably keep her rear facing longer since it is safer than forward facing.
