My daughter is 3 months old today.Well, today we were in a wreck. It wasn’t bad by any means, but she does need a new car seat.Should I get her another infant seat or a convertible one?The only concern I have with getting a convertible is that she doesn’t sit up yet obviously,so if we went in restaurants or anything it would be a pain.Any suggestions?

I’m glad everyone is safe.
Your insurance company should reimburse you for a new seat, so be sure to keep the receipt.
It’s tempting to get the convertible seat, as (depending on her size), she may only fit in the infant seat for another three months! However, at this age, I highly suggest sticking with the infant seat. It’s just so convenient, and I can’t imagine going to a convertible any sooner than necessary.
There are a million places to cut corners with baby gear, but car seats are the one thing not to mess with.
She don’t need a convertible car seat until she’s 1 years old. She’s only 3 months old, you should buy her a infant car seat.
Edit: I had no idea that many PEOPLE used convertible from day 1 and I have never seen an infant on a convertible carseat. I know I am not educate like you guys. Well Thanks for the TD’s anyways.
I would definitely get the convertible carseat for sure.
It will be cheaper for you in the long run… Most infants outgrow the infant seat by 7-9 months of age so you’ll only be buying another $200 car seat in a few months.
Since your baby doesn’t sit up yet, I would reccommend getting a sling or a ‘baby back pack’ thing (as my husband calls it) to wear your baby in when you go out.
**EDIT**
To the person who said they don’t need a convertible carseat until 1 year of age…. that is just stupid… Many parents use a convertible carseat from day 1… they are suitable (rear facing) for babies 5-35lbs usually.
I would get the convertible car seat. Most restaurants have booster seats available and if you want, you can buy your own. They are very cheap at walmart. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100617185809AA3BT5p
Insurance should cover the cost of a new infant seat. I would suggest going that route, as it could be 3-4 months before she can sit up by herself. Infant seats are so convenient so I think it would be worth it!!
just had that happen too and insurance paid which was good. i say get 1 that goes from rear facing to forward facing. not 1 that she would be sitting up in and converts to a booster
I would stick with the infant car seat! My daughter just turned one but she’s still too small for the bigger ones and it’s still easier even at this age. Some times she’s sleeping before we even get to the store so we just take in the whole thing! =] But when we do get a new one this one looks good It’s rear facing up to 40 pounds

I would say get a convertible seat, infant car seats only have a weight limit of 20lbs and she may reach this long before you can turn her around. Plus in the next month or so you’ll no longer be able to comfortably carry her in the carrier style seat anyway and end up buying the convertible seat.
Hello
I had a travel system which had the infant car seat and i loved it BUT the issue I had was when my daughter was 7 months old she grew out of it.. she was to big for it… the straps wouldn’t adjust big enough for her, so with my experience is to just get a convertible car seat seening as it is well CONVERTIBLE! lol rear face it till she is to big and than front face it when she meets the car seat requirements. Best 200 bucks I ever spend. it is a waste of money to buy 2 car seats.. mise well get the convertible one, than you wont have to go and get another one a few months down the road. Good Luck!
I think you should get a convertible carseat-it’s not worth getting a new infant carseat. She may outgrow it in a couple of months and then you’ll have to buy a convertible anyhow.
As for the restaurant issue-you can get one of those high chairs that are portable! Many of them recline so your baby can lie there the same as with a carseat. They’re not expensive at all and Extremely useful to take to restaurants, grandma’s house etc
So this could be an option for a high chair : http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3867646&fromWidget=BRU:Category:Top+Sellers
or this one:

I’d stick with getting a convertible at this point. They have to be rear facing anyway. Get a sling to carry your baby around.
convertible. graco myride 65 rearfaces to 40lbs and is one of the highest rearfacing limits on current carseats. britax also makes good ones. she’ll be sitting up soon, and you can always take the stroller in with you and put her in that….
Thank goodness no one was hurt, When you go anywhere drop her off here..
